We journeyed together for the last three weeks seeking God by first coming to Him with an expectant spirit. With that expecting spirit we waited for God with an anticipated spirit of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. This week the Christian community will celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

In the book of Isaiah, the prophet prepared our ancient Sisters and Brothers of the Old Testament to receive this prophecy as found in Isaiah 9:6-7 “[6] For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [7] Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over His kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.”

There are some four hundred and twenty five more prophecies about the coming of our Lord and Savior. So we come this week with the spirit of joy as we celebrate the arrival of Jesus, our Immanuel.

The Rev. Glencie Rhedrick

God our Heavenly Father,

We come with bowed down heads and joyful hearts, because You have blessed us to be witnesses to another opportunity to celebrate the birthday of Your precious Son, Jesus. How grateful we are that You love us just that much, to allow Your spirit to become flesh in the presence of Your Son, our Savior Jesus the Christ.

We come with bowed down heads and joyful hearts because You saw fit to breathe life into each and every one of us. Thank You, Lord, for forgiving us when we miss, omit or perhaps refuse to do Your will.

We come with bowed down heads and joyful hearts, thanking You, Lord, for loving us more than we sometimes love ourselves. Thanking You more for sending us Jesus, the reconciler. Thank You for sending us the Gift of hope!

We come with bowed down heads and joyful hearts. We are joyful because, just as You did for our ancestors, You brought us a mighty long way. We are joyful because You kept Your promise to never leave us or forsake us. Lord, we come with bowed down heads and joyful hearts.

Joyful, Lord, because You bring comfort to all of us when we are in pain. Joyful because even in our times of sorrow Your presence is always felt. Joyful because You shelter us from the storms of life. Joyful, Lord, because You strengthen us for the journey up the rough side of the mountain.

We come with bowed down heads and joyful hearts. Joyful, Lord because You step right in when we need You most. Joyful because You are always on time. Joyful, because You know us better than we know ourselves.

We come with bowed down heads and joyful hearts. Joyful because in the presence of our enemies, You gave us the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Wonderful Counselor and the Prince of Peace.

Lord we come with bowed down heads and joyful hearts. Joyful because You have given us Your Son, Our Savior, Jesus! Amen Amen and Amen.
