Choir competition returns to Charlotte
The Verizon “How Sweet the Sound” gospel competition is returning to Charlotte for another year.
Choirs interested in competing for a top prize of up to $50,000 have until April 15 to register.
Regional competitions will be held in:
- Chicago
- St. Louis
- Detroit
- Washington, D.C.
- Dallas
- Charlotte, N.C.
- Atlanta
- Los Angeles
- Oakland, Calif.
Eight regional choirs – separated into large choirs and small choirs -- competed in Charlotte in October 2010. The Salvation and Deliverance Church Choir of Tarboro, N.C, walked away as the regional winner. They beat out the Kingdom Voices of the Park Church, which won the large-church category.
Voices of Destiny, a Compton, Calif.,-based choir, won the overall competition at the finals in Washington, D.C.
To commemorate the Qcity stop, Verizon left behind an outdoor mural at First Baptist Church-West on Oaklawn Avenue in west Charlotte.
