How will you be remembered?
A preacher asked the question: How will you be remembered?
He posed this question to a group of young people. As I reflected on that question, I
realized that it’s not only a question that our youth should explore, but one we as role models should reflect upon as well.
We are called to this life to make a difference in the lives others. Some of us are called to build; others are called to tear down; and then there are those called to lift up.
We are called to build bridges of hope in a world where hope seems to be missing. As Christians, we are called to be a peculiar people. We are called to right the wrongs of those who insist that this is an “all about me” world.
For the Christian, it is about others.
So what will they say about us? As we go about this week, I challenge each of us to dare to ask the question: How will I be remembered?

Our merciful God,
Grant us the wisdom and the knowledge that will allow us to become bridge builders of hope and peace. Equip us, oh, God, with the endurance and courage to reach out beyond our comfort zones to dare to speak boldly for the rights of our children and those who need an advocate for justice, equality and the right to be safe. Help us to leave a legacy of peace and a spirit of determination to fight to end poverty, homelessness, inadequate health care and racial inequality.
Help us, oh, God, to demonstrate your unselfish and unconditional love. Help us to realize the benefits of forgiveness. Help us to see that we can do all things because of your holy presence in our lives. Make us aware daily that we are here to make a difference in the lives of others.
It is in the strong name of Jesus, the Christ, who sacrificed his life for us all. It was because of his death, burial and resurrection that we can make a difference. God, bless this prayer! Amen, Amen, and Amen.
