Q: What makes your church unique?
I believe in the empowerment of the people, not just through spoken word but in the identifying of their gifts and abilities and doing what is necessary to activate and release their gifts. I think our membership sees a pastor who does not want to continue in what has mostly dominated the church today, and that’s pulpit-centered ministry where the power lies so in the pulpit that the people come to be entertained or directed by the man or woman of God but never really empowered to go and do the things that they see the man or woman of God do. And while everyone cannot minister from the pulpit, we believe there are pulpits where we’ve been planted -- on our job, in our communities, where we live, work and play. And because of the spirit of the house, I make sure our people are empowered and equipped to go out and be ministers -- all of them be ministers. And that is an excitement to people, and it wakes up a purpose and destiny in people that they begin to look at the Bible and see that not only did Jesus and the Apostles work signs and miracles, but all of us who believe.

Q: What is the church’s vision?
My desire is that we would be a church that remains relevant. Whatever means we have to employ that don’t comprise the gospel of kingdom, we will institute them so that we remain relevant to all walks of life. Regardless of how culture shifts, we want to be able to provide leadership to people to navigate through the culture and live above it as opposed to under it. That requires us to stay on the cutting edge of technology, the cutting edge of trends sociologically, being aware of what is going on, even in individuals. As most of the traditional establishments are changing, we must be able to keep the focus of Christ in those changing establishments and continue to deliver those systems to Jesus, so that he can transform them by his spirit through our people.

Q: What are the church’s core beliefs?
Our belief is that Jesus Christ is Lord. We believe in the trinity -- God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. We believe that Christ certainly lived in the earth, he was crucified, he died, he was buried, he was resurrected, and in going back to heaven he sent his spirit to dwell in believers. We’re a spirit-filled church that believes the releasing of spirits into the earth gives us an empowering to change and impact our culture. Our core values are God, family, leadership and youth.

Q: What ministries and programs are offered?
We have a great deal of ministries within New Birth. I think our most significant and pivotal ministries are certainly our worship arts, our Christian education, our youth development, and then we have a small men’s ministry and women’s ministry. While many of our ministries are very, very important, I believe that these are the lifeblood of New Birth, and from them, people are developed and then are able to branch forth into other levels of ministry and become more effective inside the house.

Q: What are the greatest strengths of the church?
I think love is our greatest strength. When one comes into New Birth, he will always feel an encounter of great measures with love. I believe that the greatest thing you can do for anyone, perfect or imperfect, is to love them with the love of Christ, and we really have worked hard to get that into our DNA.

Q. How do you foster spiritual growth for individuals in the church?
Through relationship and through active campaigns to get people active in ministries, as well as by creating small, warm settings where people can mature and develop with other believers in a smaller environment, where they are able to connect and see examples of people demonstrating Christ.
