A big weekend for Tyler Perry
The Easter weekend was especially good for Tyler Perry.
His latest movie, “Why Did I Get Married Too?” took in $30.1 million in its first weekend – enough for second place behind “Clash of the Titans,” which brought in $61.4 million.
The sequel to Tyler’s 2007 hit "Why Did I Get Married?" not only beat the opening of that movie by almost $10 million, but it was also Perry's biggest start for a movie that didn't feature his Madea character, says the Los Angeles Times.
Despite Perry’s box office success, some critics – even some African American critics – said the move just doesn’t cut it.

Perry's next offering, due out in January: A version of the play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf."
“It deals with some pretty heavy topics, including rape and abortion,” the Times said. “But with a cast that includes Perry regular Janet Jackson as well as Mariah Carey, it will likely play well with his core audience of African American women older than 25.”
