Holiday tunes get jazzed up at the Bechtler
Check your calendar and you’ll notice that, right about now, we are deep in the midst of another holiday season. And you know what that means: It’s time to be sonically assaulted by a nonstop barrage of Christmas music.
Of course, listening to seasonal tunes doesn’t have to be a bad thing. The crew over at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, for example, is serving up a cool take on X-mas tracks with the latest installment of their Jazz at the Bechtler series.
Going down tonight (Dec. 2), the event features the fan-favorite Ziad Jazz Quartet playing jazz-flavored renditions of "Frosty the Snowman," "The Christmas Song," "Winter Wonderland" and other holiday classics. They're also promising to lay down a performance of John Coltrane's version of “Greensleeves” — and much more.
Folks interested in going should take note, though: This event has a habit of getting packed. So, come early. Jazz at the Becthler is free with admission to the Bechtler (located at 420 S. Tryon St.) and runs from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. For more information or to purchase/reserve tickets, visit the Bechtler’s website or call 704-353-9200.
And to get your holiday motor running, take a listen to Coltrane’s “Greensleeves” below:
