When was the last time you stepped out of your box?

Lately I'm finding myself stepping out of mine more and more. Last week I had lunch with a friend who introduced me to curry goat from Anntony’s Caribbean Cafe. I'm sure the expression on my face spoke volumes before the fork entered my mouth. But to my surprise, it was delicious!

I found myself going back a few days later for takeout. Luckily after my takeout meal I managed to get myself to my workout class for some calorie-burning aerobics at B-Risque. By the way, you're welcome to join me there.

After regrouping I met up with friends at Bull and Barrister for Thursday night Jazz featuring Buff Dillard. I don't know how Jazz Diva Tammy manages to provide us with fantastic musicians for free, but I'm enjoying every moment. I see many of you there, so I know that you, too, are having a blast. I'm a visual person, a people watcher, and grown folks are laughing, drinking and eating as they get their sexy back. We are holding it down in the city!

Friday evening the weather was a bit messy and I was on my way to a movie. Friends texted me to join them at Wild Wings for the R&B band, Cookie. Another night of great entertainment for free. I'll keep you posted the next time they’re playing. You don't want to miss out again.

Saturday morning I headed out for breakfast with my friend Erica. She's been missing the awesome breakfast at Terrace Café in SouthPark. Like many of you on Facebook, I “friend” people I don't know. Remember my motto: “A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met.” So my Facebook friend Cheryl joined us for breakfast, and all three of us had a great time.

Who knew the beauty of networking? If any of you feel the need to want Saturday breakfast, just call me. I'll be glad to join you at any time. I'm always looking for an excuse for breakfast (the healthiest meal of the day).

Heading on down the weekend stretch, Saturday night I arrived at our new hangout. Yes, starting last weekend, grown folks are now attending live, free music at Fanz (formerly Midtown Sundries) in the University area. Guitarist Terence Young (opened for Kirk Whalum) performed and the place was packed! I'm feeling really good about this spot and already know in advance that some hot entertainment is shortly coming our way.

Lastly, I checked out the new “Planet of the Apes” movie. If you're old-school like me, nothing takes the place of Charlton Heston yelling, “Take your paws off of me, you dirty, filthy ape!” Yes, this movie even borrowed that famous line. I guess every movie is worth seeing once.

Enough about me. Let's explore some events around town. If you haven't made any plans, check out my weekend picks:

SUNDAY
Classic International Black Cinema Series ~ This weekend they’re screening “Zou Zou” starring Josephine Baker. She once said it came closest to representing who she was in real life at her outrageous best. Hosted by: Felix Curtis
