Are you ready for Valentine's weekend?
Happy Thursday, everyone.
Whew! It’s been a long week, but now it’s time to unwind for another Qcity weekend.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend the Shableek and UnKommon Jazz event last Saturday night, but I hear Bull & Barrister was packed! I did attend the play, “What my Husband Doesn’t Know,” and Brian White did not disappoint.
When I say he wasn’t too hard on the eyes, ladies, you know what I’m speaking about… I was pleasantly surprised at the performance of the whole cast. Job well done!
So it’s Valentine’s weekend, and there are lots of events around town for couples and singles. I know, lots of people will be feeling left out. But there’s no need to! Do something special for someone else that day (be more loving). It doesn’t hurt, and after all, it’s always better to give than to receive.
Here are my picks for the weekend:
FRIDAY
Ella, the musical: Fall in love again with Ella Fitzgerald, the “First Lady of
Song.” Ella was an American jazz and song vocalist with a range spanning three octaves. She won 13 Grammys, along with countless other major honors. I met the cast last night at the Harvey B. Gantt Center. Ella’s story is phenomenal. Tickets are still available for the entire weekend. Time: 8 p.m. Friday. Saturday performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday at 3 p.m. Cost: Starting at $39.50. Location: Knight Theater at Levin Center for the Arts (430 S. Tryon St). For more information, visit CharlotteCultureGuide.com.
SATURDAY
Come out to the Arthouse to see Part 2 of the play, “The Resurrection of Eve.” I’m telling
you, I can’t wait!!! This production was written by the beautiful and talented Artellia Burch. I attended Part 1 and was completely blown away. Support some of the most talented women in the Qcity and enjoy a wine and dessert reception for only $10. Trust me when I say this is one event you don’t want to miss. I hope to see you there! I definitely want your feedback, because I know you will want to share how much you enjoyed your afternoon. Time: 2 p.m. Location: (3103 Cullman in NODA) Attire: Whatever makes you feel as beautiful as you are. For more info, call 704 756-0512 or email: www.artelliaburch.com
SUNDAY
Classic International Black Cinema Series presents “Blackboard Jungle” starring the
talented, tall, dark and handsome Sidney Poiter. This was a shocking film for its time, and several cities banned the movie, which only served to contribute to its success. Some cities banned it because of its multi-racial content; others did because city leaders feared it would spark violence. Where: Harvey B. Gantt Center (551 S. Tryon) Time: 2 p.m. Hosted by Felix Curtis. Visit the Gantt Center website for more information.
