I have a confession to make: I am a magazine junkie.

I have been like this since I was 14 years old and started reading Right On magazine. My friends and family know it but everyone just ignores my obsession.

I don’t like just any magazine. It has to be fashion magazines. So imagine my delight last month when Vogue put Michelle Obama on its cover. I rushed to the closest bookstore and bought a copy.

I have yet to open it. A black woman on American Vogue? That’s rare. So for me that issue has become a collector’s item.

Last year, Italian Vogue did something that was even more amazing. It featured an “all black” issue with African American models dominating the entire issue. That’s a part of my collection, too.

There must be something in the water, because American Vogue apparently has decided that black woman are suddenly fashionable. Its April issue, which features Beyonce on the cover, marks the first time ever that two sisters have graced the popular cover back to back.

All I can say is, it’s about time!
