I'm not much for car radio. I enjoy solitude while driving. Every once in a while I’ll catch Harvey Morning or Michael Baisden.

Lucky for me, my friend Charlotte recently mentioned that Baisden would be coming to Spirit Square as part  of his “Do Something Now” tour. So last Friday I went.

The audience seemed inspired. The crowd was encouraged to continue voting – or to get registered if they weren’t already voting. The event included a jobs fair and other vendors. I was especially impressed with First Legacy Credit Union (anyone can join) and will definitely check them out.

The evening included a showing of Baisden’s new film, “Do Women Know What They Want?”

I'm not going to debate that question, but I found the film enlightening. I think it had lessons that both men and women could learn from the other gender's perspective.

It was a great evening as Mr. Basiden mixed and mingled. Keep your eyes open for Valentine's Day 2012. That when Baisden's next book -- “Never Satisfied: Do Men Know What They Want?” – hits the market.

FRIDAY
Celebrating the Man Through Music ~ Join the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in a celebration of Romare Bearden, the Charlotte-born artist. The event is billed as a “symphonic collage of music by composers such as Duke Ellington and Aaron Copland, paired with Bearden’s images of Harlem, Southern life and our own Mecklenburg County. “Music will include works of Duke Ellington and Aaaro Copland.

Shaquille O'Neal Presents: All-Star Comedy Jam. The lineup will include comedians Deray Davis, Corey Holcomb, Michael Blackson, Capone and Gary Owen. Hilarious comedians from Shaq's previous all-star weekends.

Sai Music Presents ~ Live Jazz on Sunday Night. Featured musician and vocal stylist Kevin Jones Experience. Kevin's unique style has earned him a reputation that continues to grow throughout the region. Through much hard work and diligence, Kevin has established himself as one of the most sought after vocalist in the Charlotte area. He has also worked with some of the best musicians Charlotte has to offer.
