People ask me all the time about places to go and things to do in the Qcity.

Some say there's nothing to do here. I beg to differ.

Some people like to party. Others enjoy theater, live music or art. Needless to say, there's plenty to do in this growing city; it all depends on what you like.

So follow me each week as we explore arts and entertainment options in the Qcity.
Last week I went to see MC Lyte at club Tempo. Although it was great to see her, I wasn't impressed by her djaying skills.

The petite rapper/actress started her set with some old-school hip-hop but quickly went on to play commercial songs like "Stanky Leg."  Also, she didn't talk very much on the mic, so if you didn't know she was hosting, you might have assumed a local DJ was on the turntables.

I left disappointed.

Here are my picks for the coming weekend:

Thursday, December 17: If you haven't done all your holiday shopping, you may find some unique items at the "All Arts Market", an indoor market featuring art, jewelry, clothing and more -- all made by local artists. Free, 6 p.m.-10 p.m., The Neighborhood Theatre, NoDa, 511 E. 36th St. (704 358-9298)

Friday, December 18: In the mood for a play? "Black Nativity: A Gospel Play" by Langston Hughes will be performed by an all-youth cast. This event runs through Sunday, Dec. 20, at The Great Aunt Stella Center, 926 Elizabeth Ave. General admission tickets are $15, and senior/youth tickets (ages 3-10 and 65 and over) are $12. Saturday, December 19: Party for a cause and help someone in need. This is one of many events happening in the Qcity to help the less fortunate this holiday season. I went last year and had a ball. "The Gathering 2" Sunset Club, 1820 South Blvd, 10 p.m.
