Cheris Hodges unveils her 'Recipe for Desire'
All you wannabe writers out there take note: Charlotte-based author Cheris Hodges’ latest romance novel, “Recipe for Desire,” hits bookstores nationwide today.
And if you’re keeping count this is the 13th book from the South Carolina native and 1999 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University.
The new title focuses on party girl Marie Charles and celebrity chef Devon Harris, who appeared in her previous novels, “Betting On Love,” “No Other Lover Will Do” and “His Sexy Bad Habit.”
The novel’s plot attempts to answer the question: What happens when the ultimate party girl runs afoul of the law and has to perform community service at a local homeless shelter?
The story follows Charles as, according to Hodges, “she meets the one man who isn't impressed by her reputation and expects her to follow his rules. But the more time she spends with Devon and the ladies from My Sister's Keeper, can she change her ways and find a love that will last a lifetime or will this party girl's past come back to haunt her?”

She said she got the idea to write the story after coming in contact with homeless women in her own backyard.
"The shelter in my book is loosely based on the Charlotte shelter My Sister's House. A few years ago, I was working on an article where I followed the life of a homeless woman for a month, and that showed me that ... anyone can be homeless" said Hodges, an award-winning freelance journalist who's written for The Charlotte Post, The News & Record and The Winston-Salem Chronicle. "In meeting the ladies at My Sister's House made we want to give romance novels a little more depth."
Other releases from Hodges include “Let's Get It On,” “Just Can't Get Enough,” “More Than He Can Handle,” “Too Hot For TV,” and more. She's currently working on two new books, which she hopes will published in 2013.
