Welcome to Christmas in the Qcity, a diverse list of holiday events around Charlotte that will be updated throughout December. We’ve compiled some of the best of the holiday season, and please contact us at editor@qcitymetro.com to add other events to the list.

Holiday on Ice
Enjoy ice skating in the heart of uptown at an outdoor ice rink at the corner of MLK Blvd and Brevard on The NASCAR Hall of Fame Plaza.

Open: Daily through Jan. 6
5 p.m.-10 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sundays. Extended hours Dec. 21-Jan. 1 except Christmas day.

McAdenville Lights
Ranked seventh in Yahoo's top ten Christmas attractions in 2011, the town of McAdenville’s Christmas lights have drawn crowds since 1957. The drive-through experience is free.

Open: nightly through Dec. 26
Follow signs to McAdenville off exit 22 on I-85
Monday-Friday 5:30-9:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 5:30-11 p.m.

Speedway Christmas
The third annual lights extravaganza features 800 displays with more than 3 million lights, a Christmas village, a petting zoo, an outdoor ice rink and photos with Santa.

Open: daily through Dec. 30
Time: 6 p.m.-10 p.m.
Location: Begins at zMAX Dragway in Concord and weaves through the Charlotte Motor Speedway infield
Tickets: $15 per car Monday-Wednesday, when the Christmas village is closed; $20 per car Thursday-Sunday, when the village is open

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
Produced by the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, this classic play focuses on the mean and nasty Herdman kids, who are cast in their church Christmas play and learn the true meaning of the season. A fun and hilarious treat for all ages. For ages 5 and up, the one-act play runs about 65 minutes.
Dates: Dec. 7-23
Location: McColl Family Theatre at Imaginon, 300 E. 7th St.

The Littlest Angel
This Children’s Theatre of Charlotte production follows the heart-warming story of the Littlest Angel, who is new to heaven and is having trouble following the rules and fitting in. She finally begins to feel more at home when the Understanding Angel brings her a wooden box of childhood treasures from her time on earth. Performed by the Children’s Theatre Taradiddle Players. One act, for ages 3 and up.
Dates: Dec. 14-30
Location: Wells Fargo Playhouse, 300 E. 7th St.

The Birth
Returning for its 7th season, The Birth is a pared-down Christmas production inspired by Pulitzer-nominated author Frederick Buechner’s book ‘The Magnificent Defeat.” In a chapter titled “The Birth,” Buechner composes a series of character monologues in the voice of those closest to the narrative of Christ’s arrival. The production, which runs about an hour, features original, acoustic music.
Dates: Dec. 13-23
Location: Duke Energy Theater at Spirit Square, 345 N. College St.

Christmas at the Billy Graham Library
The annual celebration at the Billy Graham Library features a live nativity, horse-drawn carriage rides, carolers, library tours, children’s story time and Christmas shopping.
Times: Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Friday – Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Christmas activities begin 5 p.m.
Closed on Sundays.
Dates: Dec. 1 - 22
Location: 4330 Westmont Dr. in Charlotte
Fees: Admission is free. $10 parking fee per vehicle after 3 p.m. Carriage rides are $3 for children 12 and under and $7 for adults.

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden’s Santa's Workshop
Enjoy an afternoon with the jolly one with activities that include story time, a sing-along and a tram ride on the Garden Express.
Date: Dec. 8
Time: 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Location: 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont
Tickets: $20 for members, $25 for non-members.

Queen City Brass Band Christmas Concert
The performance and parking are free.
