The weather for Mother's Day weekend was absolutely gorgeous. I, like many others, had made lots of plans. Unfortunately, those plans were placed on the back burner as I managed to stumble down my stairs and break a toe.

I guess you can say it was time to slow down and smell the flowers. Lesson learned. Remember to take some much-needed T.L.C. time for yourself.

By the way, how did you enjoy the movie “Jumping the Broom?” I knew you would love it!

This weekend I am well rested and ready for my weekend picks:

FRIDAY
Bowling with Journalists and Celebs Fundraiser. I attended this event last year, having limited bowling experience since about junior high school. We had a blast! I was extremely competitive and held my own pretty well. Bring a friend or come alone and make new friends. I hope to see you there! This event is sponsored by the Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists and is used to raise money for college scholarships.
Location: AMF University Lanes (5900 N. Tryon St).
Cost: $20. All you can bowl, shoes included.
Time: Meet-and-greet with appetizers starts at 7:30 p.m., followed by bowling from 8 p.m. -10p.m.
For more information: www.caabj.com. Call 803 431-6240 or 704 564-0313.

SUNDAY
"Club Hallelujah." Come take a journey to Jesus Christ Community Church and get ready to laugh til it hurts! The play surrounds the life of Pastor Burrell who has a secret from his past, that is soon to be revealed. Will it break him or make him? Can he hide from his over religious deacon, or backsliding church members, or the son he fought so hard to win to God. Come see what's going down in Club Hallelujah.
Location: CPCC Halton Theater ( 1206 Elizabeth Ave)
Cost: $15, $20, $25.
Time: 6 p.m.
For more information: Call 704 330-6530 or visit CharlotteCultureGuide.com.
