Scholarship money available
Foundation for the Carolinas (FFTC) is opening its 2012 Scholarships Cycle. The Foundation offers a variety of scholarships that were created by families and individuals, corporations and organizations to help students achieve their educational goals. In 2011, the Foundation awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to over 600 students. The funds grant between $500 and $10,000 to high school, community college and university students. Coming again: Charlotte Restaurant Week
The next installment of Queen's Feast: Charlotte Restaurant Week is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 20, through Sunday, Jan. 29. And will feature a record 101 participating restaurants. During this semi-annual event, participating restaurants in the Charlotte area offer a prix fixe, three-course (or more) dinner for $30 per person (not including tax and gratuity). About 90,000 dinners were served during the summer event. First-time participants will include Bernardin’s at Ratcliffe in uptown Charlotte; Campania Cafe in Davidson; Fern, Flavors from the Garden in Plaza-Midwood; Waldhorn Restaurant in Pineville; Yama Asian Fusion in SouthPark; Jeffrey’s Restaurant in Mooresville; Osso Restaurant & Lounge in the North Carolina Music Factory; and La Paz in the Metropolitan, plus several others. Volunteers needed for First Night Kids
Charlotte Center City Partners is recruiting reliable, friendly and hard working volunteers for First Night Charlotte 2012-An Imagination Celebration. Volunteers are especially needed for First Night Kids activities from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Volunteers will be asked to help sell wristbands and check wristbands at venues. Shifts vary but generally last three to five hours. Click here to sign up.

Mint Museum launches new architecture program
The Mint Museum is launching its first-ever Contemporary Architecture + Design (CAD) series with an event on January 5 at 7 p.m. The event will bring together the architect who designed the new Mint Museum Uptown building and the artist who created the monumental five-story work on display in its atrium together to discuss "The Marriage of Art + Architecture." Monthly CAD events will continue throughout the year and bring notable names in the architecture and design fields to Charlotte. For more information, visit the museum’s website.

Actors wanted for faith-based musical
Newcomer playwright S. Kristi Douglas is searching for local actors to fill roles in her theatrical production of “Daughter of the King: The Musical,” which will premier next year. Auditions will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 and Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. by appointment only. Douglas is auditioning for the roles of Renee, Ophelia and Deanna King-Reyes (three close-knit adult sisters); Sister Norital (a comedic, trouble-making church member), and The Reverend (a goodly pastor). The roles of Renee, Ophelia and Deanna must be strong vocalists with the ability to “move.” Simple choreography is required. No formal dance training is required, however. Also seeking strong vocalists (adult or young adult) to sing in a choir which will perform with the actors. No acting or choreography is required for the choir. “Daughter of the King: The Musical” is a benefit performance for Dove’s Nest and My Sister’s House and debuts on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13, 2012.
