Coming soon: The Qcity Challenge

I did something different today when fixing may breakfast: I used soy milk to cook my oatmeal, not the low-fat milk I typically use.
My urologist has been pushing soy milk on me for years. Good to promote prostate health, he says.
While it’s unlikely that any of you will see me inside a vegan restaurant anytime soon (I’m a carnivore through and through), I am convinced that there are some relatively painless things I can do in 2012 to improve my overall health — like using soy milk to cook my oatmeal. (The sweetness of the soy actually improved the taste, I think.)
So what are you willing to do this year to improve your health?
In the coming weeks, the editors at Qcitymetro will issue what we are calling The Qcity Challenge. We will challenge our readers to make a health-related pledge for 2012 — and then share their successes and failures on this website.
For some, the challenge might revolve around weight loss. For others, it might be nutrition related, or getting that spouse to finally go in for a checkup, or getting in shape for a 5K run or even a marathon. Maybe your fraternity wants to challenge another fraternity to get fit.
We’re not asking anyone to bite off an improbable task, but simply commit to some easy goals you can accomplish. In other words, we’re asking our readers to begin a measured journey, not rush into a sprint.
Along the way, we hope you will let us report on your progress.
Also, expect a few social events around our challenge, fun times to meet new people and compare notes.
So keep an eye out for our official launch. Meanwhile, email me at editor@qcitymetro.com to let me know what your challenge will be. You never know; with proper inspiration, I just might try a vegan restaurant in 2012.
