D’Angelo, whose real name is Michael Archer was arrested March 6 and charged with solicitation after allegedly propositioning an undercover policewoman for oral sex in New York City's West Village.

The Grammy award-winning R&B has pled not guilty and issued a statement through his spokesperson, Lindsay Guion.

“We would like his fans and the public at large to know that the 36 year-old has [pled] not guilty -- and is contesting the allegations made against him. D'Angelo would like to personally thank all of his fans for the outpouring of concern, and appreciates if all would allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions."

The singer’s long awaited album is scheduled for release this summer.
