Delfeayo Marsalis brings jazz to Qcity school

Checkout out this video clip (below) of trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and his band performing at Northwest School of the Arts.
The group was in Charlotte Wednesday preparing for a Thursday evening performance at Knight Theater and stopped by the school for an hour-long demonstration. Qcitymetro.com was there.
Marsalis last month kicked off a national “Sweet Thunder: Duke & Shak” tour honoring the music of Duke Ellington and the literature of William Shakespeare.
Ellington's 1957 "Such Sweet Thunder" album was a 12-part suite based on Shakespearean themes and characters. Marsalis has streamlined the arrangements from 15 musicians to eight. The show is accented with Shakespearean dialogue between Marsalis and an actor who is traveling with the group.
Lonnie Davis, president of the Jazz Arts Initiative and a former New Orleans resident now living in Charlotte, said she invited Marsalis, a fellow New Orleanian, to stop by the Northwest School after she heard the groups would be traveling through. Her organization seeks to increase appreciation for jazz.
At the Northwest School, Marsalis not only performed but stopped to take questions from an eager audience.
