Deltas of Charlotte Inc. is preparing to host its fifth annual bachelor auction later this month.

Besides the obvious – single men – this year’s event will include a pre-auction reception, an after-party at Blue restaurant and a silent auction where attendees can bid on jewelry, weekend getaways, theater tickets and restaurant passes. Proceeds will go to college scholarships, sorority projects and the UNC-Charlotte pre-college enrichment program, said Katrina Young, president Deltas of Charlotte.

“The bachelors participating in this event are some of the most eligible bachelors in Charlotte,” she said.

And, judging from their date packages and city names, they also are creative.

For this year’s theme -- “Men in The City” -- each bachelor adopted a moniker representing a town that embodies his personas, from Hollywood to Chicago to Charlotte.

One bachelor, Mr. Miami, is offering a manicure/pedicure, dinner and horseback riding as part of his package.

Not to be outdone, Mr. Detroit is throwing in three personal training sessions, lunch, dinner and Yoga.

Approximately 20 bachelors will participate, ranging in age from mid 20s to 50.

Last year’s event drew about 450 people, primarily women who came to savor the male eye candy.

“The event has grown over the past four years, each year being bigger and more profitable,” said Alexia Peterson, who was part of the DOC fundraising committee five years ago and helped plan the initial event. “This year’s fifth annual auction is sure to be the best of them all, in spite of the economy.”

Event chairs for the 2009 auction are Brittini Barnes and Remi Adeniji.
