Designer Korto Momolu debuts new fashion line
Fashion designer Korto Momolu is a busy woman.
Since her appearance on season five of the hit show “Project Runway” the designer hasn’t stopped working.
She’s in the Qcity tonight to debut her fall fashion line at the Fashion Passion 09 event at the Harris Conference Center in Charlotte.
Yesterday, Momolu made a special appearance at Nordstrom’s in Southpark Mall to discuss her experience on the show and trends for the fall fashion season.
She said being on the show was a dream come true, and although she didn’t win, she’s come to realize that winning isn’t everything, and that sometimes coming in second place is better because you don’t have all the stress.
The Liberian-born designer said the toughest challenge she’s faced since the show ended has been getting financing for her clothing line.
“No backers have called me yet but that doesn’t stop me from continuing to go on. It’s a juggle and a hustle and it’s hard work,” she said.
She does events all over the country as a way to support her various projects, and although her clothing line is not available for purchase yet, she’s got other exciting projects on the horizon.
She’s expanding her line of jewelry on her website www.kortomomolu.com as well as debuting a handbag line with Tre Vero at select Dillard’s stores in 2010.
In a couple of weeks, she’ll compete against designers from previous seasons in Lifetime’s “Project Runway: All-Star Challenge" airing August 20. She’ll also be a guest on the "Wendy Williams Show" television talk show on August 17 and will produce the fashion show at the Tom Joyner Family Reunion in Orlando in September.
Editor's Note: Tomorrow we will review her clothing line.
