The early bird catches the worm. So like some of you, I'm an early riser who likes to get out on the town early in the day.

Last week I made my way to the Yiasou Greek Festival, and once again the food was delicious. The Baklava pastry simply melted in my mouth, and the lamb was tender. I'm embarrassed to say I used my fingers instead of my fork. You know how it is sometimes.

I love cultural festivals, especially the Greek festival, which allows me to step outside my box to mingle and learn from others. And if you know me, I'm one who likes to ask a million and one questions, believing in the slogan, “Each one, teach one.”

Speaking of festivals, next weekend is the Festival in the Park, so mark your calendars.

Did you make it to Fanz last Saturday night to hear Adrian Crutchfield? If you didn't, you missed out. Adrian and the band performed a spicy version of Minnie Riperton's "Inside My Love," and the audience chimed in as he played my favorite, "You Can't Hide Love" by Earth, Wind and Fire.

I believe it was the first time I ever attended a local jazz event where the crowd cheered for an encore! I told you guys, Adrian was hot, and I even got to meet his biggest fan, his mom. Next time you hear Adrian Crutchfield is playing, you know to get there early.

I did manage to get over to the Harvey B. Gantt Center for the final installment of the Josephine Baker film series. Although I'm sorry to see the series end, I truly enjoyed the educational experience of learning about Ms. Baker.

It was hard to believe that Sunday was the 10th anniversary of 9/11. I attended a program Sunday evening hosted by Ramona Holloway at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. It was a beautiful, uplifting tribute in remembrance of the 9/11 victims. Although it was a somber day, my heart was able to smile when the event ended.

Speaking of Churches, I was invited to attend “Gospel Shout” at the House of Prayer. The Golden Angels Musicians were amazing. Trust me; you’ll want to attend this event next year.

I'm thinking this weekend I may get my camera out and start taking pictures at some of the events I attend. So if you see me with the camera, give me a big smile.

If you haven't made weekend plans, check out my picks:
