Last weekend was explosive with Fourth of July celebrations. I started early with Thursday night jazz at the University Shoppes, listening to my friend, violinist Sai.
Friday I attended both of Shableek's jazz shows at Amos' on the Lake. You know Bleek; he never disappoints.
Moving on to Saturday, like many of you, I was at the Soul Food Fest. All I can say is old-school tore it down! Confunkshun was hot, and Cameo held their own, performing my favorite song, “It’s Like Candy!”
Lastly, on Sunday night I headed down to Tempo to listen to my buddy Ryan and the Peace and Love Band. I also caught the Purple Charlotte Steppers in action, and I even got on the dance floor for a hot minute!
By Monday I was exhausted and had time to reflect on the weekend and one of my favorite quotes: "A stranger is just a friend I haven't met."
Believe it or not, there are occasional moments when I attend an event not knowing a soul (flying solo). Unfortunate for me, last weekend almost turned into one of those occasions. But I had a co-worker who opened his heart, allowing me to engage with a group of his friends who unselfishly welcomed me to join them.
I don't think they realized just how thrilled I was. What a wonderful feeling to be embraced and eagerly accepted. I loved it! I hold each and every one of them in high regard.
With that being said, much love, appreciation and gratitude to Terance, Audrey, Nicole and Jeff. Thanks for all you do, my (special) friends!
If you haven't made plans, check out my picks for this weekend:
