The Mecklenburg sheriff's office won't be auctioning the million-dollar, south Charlotte home of American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino today as planned.

An lawyer representing a Florida lender told the Associated Press that the two sides had reached a deal to avert the sale.

The $1.3 million home was scheduled to be auctioned at noon at the Mecklenburg courthouse.

According to the New York Post, Barrino owed the Florida company $65,000 - money she borrowed in 2006 to pay back taxes she owed the IRS.

The singer made a $10,000 payment in August 2007 but had never paid the balance, the Post reported last week.

Mecklenburg sheriff's deputies had tried “at least a dozen times” to reach Barrino at the home and by phone, the Post said.

The 6,232-square-foot home on Bevington Place has five bedrooms and 5 1/2 baths, according to Mecklenburg tax records. She bought it in March 2007, tax records show.

The house was to be sold to the highest bidder for cash, “subject to any mortgages, liens or taxes that may be owned on property.”

The attorney gave no detail about the deal, the AP said.

Lenders in 2005 moved to repossess a red Mercedes-Benz after Barrino fell behind in payments. The dealership sued and the case was resolved.
