The CIAA tournament is almost here, and everyone knows the weeklong event is all about people, parties and celebrities.

I ran into Johnny Taylor, former CEO of Rushmore Drive, and his business partner, Duane Massey, of Taylor Massey Entertainment. I asked about their much-anticipated party, "The Event," hosted by Diddy (Sean Combs) on Feb. 27 at the Ramada on Woodlawn Road.

Specifically, I wanted to know why they chose the Ramada. It doesn’t seem plush enough for Diddy, who's known for his over-the-top extravagance.

Taylor said they would have loved to have had the entertainer host the event at a downtown venue, but there simply wasn't a space large enough. They're expecting 3,000 people, Taylor said, and the Ramada was the only place that could accommodate a crowd that large.

Massey said local interior designer Will Smith of Interior Motives design firm will transform the venue. Massey said they anticipate other celebrities as well.

"We couldn't bring Diddy here without making it right," said Taylor.
