Remember Roxanne Shante, the 14-year-old rapper who scored big with the hit song “Roxanne’s Revenge” in 1984?

Today she holds a Ph.D in psychology from Cornell University, and she didn’t pay a dime for her Ivy League education.

Although Shante sold 250,000 copies of her hit song in New York City alone and later recorded two albums, the teen mother never got her fair share. So instead of pursuing a career in music, she decided to get an education.

That’s when Shante, born Lolita Gooden, remembered a clause in her record contract stipulating that Warner Music would pay for her education for life.
