What is Italian gravy?

Italian “gravy” is another term for sauce. The base component of it is tomato. Ingredients vary, depending on who is making it. Some add meat; others use fresh herbs. The gravy can be modified to fit the dish.

Here is a simple recipe you can modify to fit your taste. Add seafood, meat or cheese to change the flavor profile.

Italian Gravy

Ingredients

4 tomatoes
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon basil
1 tablespoon chopped onions
2 cups water
6-8 roasted garlic cloves
Black pepper
Olive oil

Equipment
1 large sauce pot
Large bowl

Preparation
Heat pan
And olive oil
Remove skin from tomatoes
Chop tomatoes into chunks
And tomatoes to bowl
And all herbs and spices to bowl
Mix together
And to large saucepan
And water
Bring to a boil and reduce to simmer
Cook for 2 to 4 hours

For service
Ladle gravy over your favorite pasta
Enjoy
