Fall is in the air, and like some of you, I decided to take it easy as I strolled leisurely around town.

As you know, I'm a huge fan of independent and foreign films, so I stopped by the Manor Theater to see "The Guard." This film stars Don Cheadle, who plays an American FBI Agent, and Brendan Gleeson, who plays an Irish cop.

Cheadle is often known for his laid-back roles in films such as “Rosewood,” “Hotel Rwanda,” and “Reign Over Me.” “The Guard” is a dark comedy, and the chemistry between the two actors is sure to hold your attention. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, it's still playing.

Head butting or sucker punch? I caught the fight between Mayweather and Ortiz. The fourth-round controversy started with a head butt, hug, kiss on the cheek and a knock out. Whether you agree or disagree with the outcome, Floyd Mayweather maintains his perfect record.

Were you able to attend “How Sweet the Sound,” the uplifting gospel event? The Salvation and Deliverance Church won best small choir and overall regional choir. And how about Shady Grove Wesleyan Church, winner of the best large choir? Both choirs were my picks for the evening, although all the choirs were amazing. I had never attended this event, but what a wonderful experience it was.

I'm looking forward to this weekend, and I'm hoping you will enjoy my picks:

FRIDAY
Peace and Love Band from Rock Hill is performing at Fanz Sports Grill (University area). This event is hosted by Jazz Diva Tammy Greene, who is trusting my judgment, as we know she is strictly jazz. I've boasted so often about Peace and Love being my favorite band. This will be an old school R&B Party. The "mature” jazz crowd knows how we do are Saturday night. So come on out, support the band and let your hair down. Wear comfortable attire because you will be motivated to hit the dance floor, and I'm taking pictures! The forecast is calling for rain, but don't even think about letting the weather stop you.
Location: Fanz Sports Grill (3425 David Cox Rd)
Cost: $10
Time: 9 p.m. (Get there early.)

The ultimate way to kick off the fall season, this event was chosen as one of the best events in September by the Southeast Tourism Society. Newcomers to Charlotte will love it.
