Is it any wonder that the release of Disney’s "Princess and the Frog" has been such a success with little girls everywhere? Young girls, and the young at heart, have been enamored with the notion of being a princess, living in a gorgeous castle, wearing stunning, colorful ball gowns and enjoying the fairy tale life for several generations. With just a few strokes of the magic wand, and more importantly, a few strokes of your creativity; you can convert your daughter’s everyday bedroom into a little girl’s magical fantasy land.

Find unique ways to display treasures that your child has collected. It could be trophies, dolls, tiaras or something else that’s dear to their heart. Display it proudly, front and center. Resist the urge to stack them on the dresser or pack them away in a closet. In the bedroom of the attached photo, I placed over fifteen tiaras on shelves cut, painted and installed to look like the floating clouds that were hand painted on the walls.

You can use inexpensive materials like gauze, burlap, sheets or lightweight throw blankets to make window treatments. Sure you can purchase expensive fabrics to make gorgeous fabric panels, but you can also make equally strikingly treatments with inexpensive fabric like the cotton gauze.

From humdrum stock shelves to a divine design, it’s amazing what a little paint and lot’s of creativity can do. Prime the unfinished bookcase first, and then use acrylics to paint circles, stripes, swirls or other fun geometrical symbols on the outside, and the inside of the unit. Architectural detailing can be added by attaching decorative feet to the bottom and customizing a header on top to construct the roof top for an enchanted castle. For safety reasons, make sure tall units are secured to the wall.

Don’t omit buying a piece of furniture or accessory just because it’s not in perfect condition. You can always add embellishments like ribbons or paint to lampshades. Buy ready made bedding sets and then sew custom pillows or a bed skirt to personalize your bedding. For a little bit of history and to keep things from looking so new and planned, don’t forget to shop at vintage stores for your little princess.

By far the three most important rules in designing the interior of a magical kingdom are to be creative, have fun and enjoy the process.
