Meet Dwayne Collins, our new fashion writer for men
Far too often, we men view clothing as "women's work.” We associate fashion with
femininity.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Few things exude masculinity like a well-dressed man. I am convinced, in fact, that most men shy away from this part of manhood because nobody took time to educate them on the principles of men's fashion.
My name is Dwayne L. Collins, and that’s what my new column on Qcitymetro.com is all about.
Since 1992 I have served as a wardrobe consultant for Styles by Privilege, a Charlotte firm that has helped some of the Qcity’s leading men fine-tune their wardrobes. We offer a wide array of services -- made-to-measure apparel, wardrobe engineering, personalized profile analysis and personal shopping.
I have also spent 24 years in the men's retail industry, primarily within men's suits.
My goal with this column is to share readers some of the things I’ve learned over the years.
So, that being said, twice a month Qcitymetro men can look to this column for information that will move them from the dungeon of fashion mishaps to the zenith of style superiority.
I will touch on issues such as:
• Difference between fashion and style.
• What is a Dandy?
• Do's and Don'ts of fine men's dress.
• What is a Swell?
• And much, much more.
I have worked with men such as former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent James Pughsley, civil rights attorney James Ferguson, Mecklenburg County Manager Harry Jones and Charlotte City Councilman Andy Dulin.
Now, it is my honor to serve you.
