Maya Corneille and Michael Valentine met in January 2009 when Michael decided to make a stop in Greensboro, NC, on his way to the inauguration. Michael quickly found something to like about the city -- Maya.

As their romance turned to thoughts of marriage, they wanted to make the start of their journey together a mutual decision. They decided to honor one another with dual proposals.

Michael and Maya were married on August 7, 2010 at Jetton Park on the banks of Lake Norman. They exchanged rings inscribed with an Adinkra symbol that means “Love lights its own path.”
