Moviegoers obsessed with Beyonce
The Beyonce Knowles movie “Obsessed,” which also stars Idris Elba, took in $28.5 million in ticket sales over the weekend, making it the box office favorite.
The movie features Knowles and Elba as a couple whose ideal marriage lands on the rocks after a crazed temp worker (played by Ali Larter) begins stalking the husband.
The strong opening for "Obsessed" was more good news for an industry with revenues running well ahead of last year’s pace -- and the busy summer season is still ahead.
Despite the recession, or perhaps because of it, movie attendance is up a reported 15.7 percent this year.
Even with Beyonce’s star power, "Obsessed" was generally trashed by film critics. Some called it a lame knockoff of the 1987 thriller "Fatal Attraction," which starred Glenn Close as crazed woman pursuing a married man, played by Michael Douglas.
