Looking for entertainment options? Here are our weekend picks:

1

My Mother's Hats
A musical and dance production about the life and legacy of Lois Mailou Jones Pierre-Noel, an African American artist from Boston. She overcame many obstacles during 1920's - 1940's, and became a well-known International Artist, Educator, and Pioneer. She's referred to as the Harriet Tubman in the art world for her determination, and the impact she made on over 2500 students she taught.

2

Dreamgirls
This world-famous play tells the story of an up-and-coming, 1960s, girls singing group and the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune. DREAMGIRLS features the unforgettable hits And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going, One Night Only, and Listen. This production runs through Sunday, November 14, at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.

3

Black Girl
Working as a governess for a wealthy French family, a young Senegalese woman accompanies her charges on a vacation to the French Riviera, where her white mistress suddenly expects her to do the work of a common maid. This film is at the Gantt Center.

Looking Ahead:

Fantasia & Eric Benet
The 26-year-old, eight-time Grammy nominee has new music and, she says, a new outlook on life. That's why she titled her third album "Back to Me." See Fantasia in concert, along with crooner Eric Benet, at Ovens Auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

At the Movies:
If movies are more your thing, Denzel Washington stars in the new release -- “Unstoppable.” It's about a massive, unmanned locomotive nicknamed "The Beast." The train is loaded with toxic cargo and is roaring through the countryside, vaporizing anything put in front of it. A veteran engineer and a young conductor, aboard another train in the runaway's path, devise an incredible plan to try and stop it -- and prevent certain disaster in a heavily populated area. The Orlando Sentinal gives it three stars.
