"Precious" the powerful new movie based on the Sapphire novel "Push," scored big at the box office over the weekend.

Executive produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, the film earned a record breaking $1.8 million in a limited 18 theater nation-wide release.

"Precious" is about an overweight, dark-skinned teenage girl in Harlem who suffers horrifying abuse at the hands of her parents. The movie stars newcomer Gabourey Sidibe, Mariah Carey, Mo'Nique, Paula Patton and Lenny Kravitz.

The film is set to open in the Qcity on November 20.
