Former child television star Gary Coleman was admitted to a Utah hospital Thursday, reportedly in critical condition.

According to the Associated Press, the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center near Coleman’s home would not release details, and Coleman’s lawyer said the family had requested privacy at this time.

The former star’s wife and father-in-law released a statement Thursday saying Coleman was taken to the hospital with "a serious medical problem." The statement asks for prayers, adding: "We hope those prayers are answered and that Gary will be able to recover and return home soon."

Last fall, he underwent heart surgery that was complicated by pneumonia, his lawyer told the AP.
