Funk and R&B coming to Speed Street
The 52nd running of NASCARS’s only 600-mile event takes place Sunday, May 29 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The Coca-Cola 600 is a Memorial Day tradition. It is NASCAR’s iron-man contest, featuring 43 of stock car racing's best in an all-out slugfest.
Dubbed "NASCAR's Longest Night" the annual race is in fact, the longest regularly scheduled automobile race conducted on an oval track anywhere in the world, according to the official website.
Speed Street: The Big Kick-Off featuring R&B performances
The weekend preceding the big event will be jammed packed with live entertainment, family fun, vendor booths and tasty food at the Speed Street festival, which kicks off on Thursday May, 26 and lasts through Saturday, May 28.
For three days, the streets of uptown Charlotte will be transformed into a showcase of motor sports with appearances by top Nextel Cup Drivers, dynamic exhibits for all ages and an amazing assembly of NASCAR show cars and simulators. Around 400,000 fans are expected to attend.
The first night of Speed Street will be all about the funk. Fans will have the chance to sing “Wishing on a Star” or groove to “Car Wash” with R&B band Rose Royce when they perform at 9 p.m.
When the clock strikes 9:45 p.m., there will be “No Parking on the Dance Floor” as Midnight Star begins to perform.
Both performances will take place on the Coca-Cola stage, located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Brevard Street and Caldwell Street at the NASCAR Hall of Fame entrance.
Speed Street is free to the public and opens each day at 12 p.m. For a schedule of events, visit www.600festival.com or www.facebook.com/FoodLionSpeedStreet.
