There was not much warmth on the January day that Joy Blackmon agreed to meet Kenny Patterson on a blind date in 2008. They planned to meet for ice cream at Coldstone Creamery, and Joy was feeling lukewarm.

Although Joy’s closet friend had set up the meeting, convinced that the two would make a perfect match, Joy needed a little enthusiasm. But when she extended her hand to say hello, Kenny opened his arms. Slowly, Joy began to ease outside her comfort zone and into a loving relationship.

Kenny and Joy were married on September 5, 2010 at Asbury Grove Park in Charlotte, NC.
