If you’re planning to visit Food Lion Speed Street over the next three days, tonight (Thursday) might offer your best entertainment options.

Morris Day & The Time are scheduled to perform at 9:15 p.m. on the Coca-Cola stage, located at Trade and Tryon streets. And at 6:15 p.m., the group Liquid Pleasure will perform. For those who prefer country, try Rodney Atkins on the Miller Light Stage at 8 p.m.

City officials project that more than 400,000 people will attend the annual street festival, which this year coincides with the 51st running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Speed Street officially opens at noon today with Mayor Foxx and other regional officials on the Coca-Cola stage. Events end each night at 11 p.m.

This year, the festival is changing its location slightly. The changes:

-- The north edge of the festival will be at Tryon and Fifth streets. In recent years, the festival extended northward and included Sixth and Seventh streets. Not this year.

-- The area bordered by Church, Third and Mint streets and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be part of the festival this year.

-- Also added to the festival is the area around the NASCAR Hall of Fame, at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Brevard Street.
