I hope some of you got to attend GanttFest last weekend. I signed up to volunteer and attend Friday evening's reception, which included a screening of the film “Kiss and Tell: Black Romance in Film.”
I'm partial to the Gantt Center, and once again they exceeded my expectations -- delicious treats and wine catered by Eloquent Creations and music by violinist Sai. The documentary by Darryl Pitts, along with a meet-and-greet session with Sheryl Lee Ralph at the Knight Theater, was just the icing on the cake.
I was thrilled to hear from folks who attended the Gantt Center and other nearby museums for the first time. If you were not able to get uptown last weekend it's never too late; Charlotte has many up-and-coming venues, and I'll do my best to keep you in the loop.
Wednesday night I attended the opening of another On Q Production, “For the Love of Harlem.” To my delight, it was a sold out crowd! Kudos to playwright Jermaine Nakia Lee and director Sidney Horton.
What a phenomenal play. I felt like I was back home in New Jersey attending a Broadway production. The dancing and singing nearly blew me away. The acting was superb. If you get a chance, put this on your to-do list. You will not be disappointed.
“For the Love of Harlem” runs through Nov. 12. Visit CharlotteCultureGuide.com for details. Oh, and you may want to buy ticket in advance; some nights are already sold out.
