Long before Facebook and Twitter became the rage, there was Black Planet.

That’s how Ericka Hudson and Tallen Shields first became acquainted. They were both students at N.C. A&T State University in 2002.

The two would frequently use Black Planet to chat online.

“The funny thing is, when we actually would see each other, we just walked past like strangers,” Ericka recalls.

Finally, one day as she was walking up the steps to enter her dorm, someone yelled out: “Hey, aren’t you the girl from Black Planet?”
