Tyler Perry's mother, Willie Maxine Perry, a longtime preschool teacher has died. She was 64.

In a brief posting on his Facebook and Twitter pages, the 40-year-old thanked his fans for their prayers and support, but declined to disclose any further details.

Perry has previously claimed that his mother was the inspiration for Madea, his most famous character.
