Written in 1954 by James Baldwin, this play tells the story of Margaret Alexander, a self-anointed storefront preacher in Harlem who is about to see her world crumble. David, her son and church organist, is set on following in the footsteps of his father, a jazz musician. When the errant husband and father comes home to die, Sister Margaret finds herself losing everything but coming to terms with her own true sense of faith.

This three-act play will connect you to the soul of gospel music.

The play runs Jan. 13-28 at the Duke Energy Theater at Spirit Square.
