I love live entertainment. Last Sunday I attended an intimate jazz concert at Pewter Rose featuring the Kevin Jones Experience. Wow! What a wonderful experience it was.
I had heard about Kevin's vocals and assumed he would be entertaining. I sat in awe, listening with such intensity that I could barley finish dinner. After Kevin performed “My Funny Valentine,” I became his No. 1 fan.
He said he’s planning another performance Nov. 27. Yes, his No. 1 fan will be there. Maybe he’ll sing "Sister Moon," one of my all-time favorites.
This weekend is filled with exciting events. With temperatures Thursday predicted to be near 80, you may want to get a jump start on the weekend.
Make sure to check out the (Thursday) screening of "Second Chance,” an Iris Huey film, at Carole Hoefener Center (610 E. 7th Street). The price is $10. Here is a link for more information.
Also, Thursday is the last evening for live free jazz at Bull and Barrister (great night for sitting on the patio) featuring the Allstarz Band.
Two of my friends, Ryan Brown (from the Peace and Love Band) and Buff Dillard (my favorite trombone player), will be performing. Get there early and save me a seat. I'll be coming from the “Second Chance” film.
This Saturday is GanttFest 2011, and I know they are in need of volunteers. If you're not too busy, this would be a great opportunity to make a difference in the community while having some fun. Call the Gantt Center (704 547-3700) or check out their website. http://www.ganttcenter.org/web/
