One of my favorite things to do on Sunday is to go to brunch. It’s a great way to connect with friends and family especially after a hectic week.
 
But what do you get when you put two meat eaters together with two vegetarians and everyone is hungry? 
 
My mate and I were meeting friends recently and needed a restaurant that could accommodate our picky palates.
 
We choose Zink American Kitchen located at 201 N. Tryon St.
 
First let me say, bring your appetite or better yet go starving.
Zink’s buffet style brunch has plenty of options to choose from whether you’re in the mood for breakfast or lunch.
 
If you’re a meat-eater, the selection includes grilled salmon, pork loin, BBQ chicken and brown sugar ham.
 
If you’re in the mood for breakfast, there’s an omelet station with fresh ingredients for the chef to make an omelet of your choice. At the grits bar you can have creamy stone ground grits with toppings or shrimp and grits.
 
Other side options included, quiche, scrambled eggs, hash brown casserole, macaroni & cheese, garlic string beans, fresh fruits, peel and eat shrimp, smoke salmon and hummus and a variety of breads including biscuits and croissants.
 
When I asked the restaurant manager, if the string beans were cooked with meat, he graciously offered to have the chef prepare the beans sans chicken stock. He then personally delivered the dish to our table. The beans were cooked to perfection just enough and it was delicious.
 
If that’s not enough food, Zink also features a tapas menu that includes Angus beef sliders, sloppy Joe sliders, Buttermilk Waffles, Eggs Benedict, Pulled Pork Sliders and Orange scented American Toast, my favorite!
 
The waiter informed me that the tapas items are served separately (and at no additional cost) because they don’t keep well sitting out for long periods of time.
 
The wait staff at Zink was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant wasn’t too crowded and we liked the option of having outdoor seating.
 
The buffet area was clean and the chafing dishes were consistently full with hot food.
 
We didn’t care for the Mimosa’s though, the orange juice had too much pulp and it didn’t mix well with the champagne.
 
For $16.95 for adults and $6.95 for children, Zink is one of my favorite places to chill out, have great food and conversations with friends.
