Eva Cowan Houston
Mrs. Eva Cowan Houston, the daughter of the late Clyde H. Cowan and Maria Cowan, was born in Iredell County, North Carolina, on January 20, 1916. She attended Iredell County Schools then moved to Charlotte and graduated from Second Ward High School in 1937.
She married Armstead Mayo “Bub” Houston on February 8, 1944. Mr. Houston preceded her in death.
A beautiful life filled with service to God and her family. As God blessed her she was willing to share with others her time and service to the best of her ability. She was a devoted Christian woman, a good neighbor who loved everybody and especially children, who were dear to her heart.
It fitted into God’s plan that this beautiful life come to an end on April 13, 2011, at Presbyterian Hospital.
Mrs. Houston was an active member of Grace AME Zion Church and served as president of several organizations; always willing to do her part. She was active in many community organizations helping those in need.
She leaves one daughter, Clara H. Lewis; two granddaughters, Mrs. Vania Lewis Carrington and Robin Lewis Hudson; one sister, Ms. Mitchell Mariah Cowan, all of Charlotte; three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Grace AME Zion Church, 3722 David Cox Rd., Charlotte, NC. Visitation is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Interment will be in York Memorial Park.
