Robert Freeman Washington of Charlotte, North Carolina, succumbed to death on April 13, 2011, at age 57 after a brief illness.

Robert was the son of Robert B. Washington and Eleanor Washington and a graduate of the class of 1972 of West Charlotte High School. Robert, affectionately known as “Bob”, married his Johnson C. Smith college sweetheart, Juanita Bradford on August 5, 1973, and from that union of 37 years, came three children; Candyce , Melanie and Jonathan.

Bob worked for over 30 years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, many years as an Engineering Technician. He was instrumental in surveying the outer belt loop, 485, and other major highways in an around Charlotte.

Bob was a faithful and loyal husband, a devoted son, a loving father and an affectionate grandfather. He was also a faithful servant of Jehovah God. He was baptized in 1998 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and he worked diligently in the Hickory Grove, Linda Lake and the Sugar Creek Congregations.

Bob was a giving and forgiving man. Throughout his life, he gave assistance to many in various ways. He had a way of putting people at ease and many would talk to him about what concerned them. He was an excellent listener and had a way to make others feel better about their problems. He didn’t seek glory and attention, but was content to stay out of the spot light. He touched the lives of many and is and will be sorely missed.

Bob was predeceased by his brother, Michael Washington. Left to cherish his memory are: His Wife-Juanita B. Washington; Children-Candyce F. Washington, Melanie W. Gripper (Anthony), Jonathan B. Washington; Grandchildren-Taylor Janai Gripper, Matisyn Marie Gripper, Andrew Maddox Gripper; Parents-Robert B. Washington & Eleanor Washington; Sister-Karen Robinson (Greg); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many, many friends.

The Memorial Service for Robert Washington will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3630 Hubbard Road, Charlotte, NC 28269.
