Mary Mary + Auto-Tune = O.M.G. (and not in a good way)

Has the Auto-Tune trend jumped the shark?

Every artist from T-Pain to Lil’ Wayne, Kanye West to Jamie Foxx has nasal-ed his sound in the last year and scored a hit song.

So it was only a matter of time until gospel artists got on board, no? Mary Mary’s latest single, "God In Me" takes it there, and so far has received a lot of positive feedback. But I’m not so sold.

I really like Mary Mary. But when a spiritual song sounds like it could easily be sandwiched between Foxx’s “Blame It” and ‘Ye’s “Heartless” at the club, I have to pause and think, “Should we leave the talkbox in the ‘80s with Roger Troutman (may he rest in peace)?” But maybe that’s me.

What do you think, music lovers? Am I overreacting? Or is the rebirth of Auto-Tune just SO over???

At first I thought it was you, but then I clicked on the link. It's a catchy tune, but not my idea of gospel. Thanks for sharing.

Linpo! Yo what's good. I haven't heard from you in a minute. TC told me about the blog and I had to come and check it out.

As far as this Mary Mary joint, I have to admit that I dig it. Now, let me go on record in saying the auto-tune is the worst thing to happen to hip-hop since SouljaBoy. It makes everybody who can't sing think they can sing and want to sing when they have no business singing.

But something about this one works for me, especially in the morning when I'm groggy and going to work.

Witness! Hey you! Thanks for stopping by. It's been too long!

Yeah, I don't hate the song ... it just seems like a strange marriage (gospel & Auto-Tune). I feel some kind of way about that, I just don't know what as of yet.

i feel you. i can't front when i first heard i was like why would they do that? but then it grew on me. and i do kinda dig the fact that mary mary incorporates mainstream trends into their music because i think it does give them more exposure. and ultimately, with their ministry, that's the point.

The bibole tells us to become all things to all people- I guess they did it. It works for young people.
