A-ha! So it's not just me. Auto-Tune is played.

I mean, it has to be if hip-hop's reigning king, Jay-Z, is saying the tool is DOA.

OK, he didn't really say that.

But his new joint, D.O.A. (Death of Autotune), certainly attacks the disposable element of the songs/artists relying too heavily on the voice box.

According to AllHipHop.com, during an interview with Angie Martinez of Hot 97 (in NYC), Jay said his issue is actually with Auto-Tune when it's used "as a crutch." It can be great, he said, when artists have melodies behind it.

During the interview, Hov also confirmed that the rumors are true: his album, "The Blueprint 3" will be released Sept. 11.

"It's the date the first one came out and it was a horrible date in our history," he stated. "I have a wonderful idea for a show, proceeds are gonna go to charity. You know, just bring it full circle. I have a historic venue in mind, I'm gonna bring some artists out. It's gonna be big."

All right, family. Lots to discuss. What do you think of the new song, talk of the new album and plans for a benefit show?

i was waiting for this post. first, could we just go ahead and say "The Roc is in the building!" sorry, just had to get that out. now on the D.O.A. i heard it last week and i thought it was dope. it wasn't jay-z's superbest lyrically but it was far from some of that kingdom come garbage and i thought no i.d.'s beat was absolutely incredible!

i'm really looking forward to this album. btw, i do wonder how ye feels. i mean, he just did a whole auto-tune album and then his big brother comes out and basically says auto-tune is wack. hmmm...

Haha. Told you the post was coming.

'Ye actually told MTV a few weeks ago that he & Jay took all the Auto-Tune tracks off "The Blueprint 3," to emphasize the point of zero-Auto-Tune. He equates "808s" vs. "B3" it to wearing a suit to a wedding vs. sneakers to a basketball game. What's appropriate for one person vs. what's appropriate for another.

"I think it's a perfect moment for Jay to provide some gym shoes to a basketball game right now," West says.

So I'm assuming no love has been lost between those two :)

that's what's up. but still, these are men. there has to be a little competition on the low. i mean, ye has clearly surpassed jay-z not in terms of skill or swagger, but just mass appeal. even though i think bp3 will be really good. it's not gonna do 808 numbers. (for the record, i didn't care for 808. skipped it.)
