14 arrested at DWI check point
A Friday night checkpoint in east Charlotte netted 14 arrests –- 10 for driving while intoxicated, two for underage drinking and two for driving with a revoked license.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, assisted by other regional law enforcement agencies, began stopping cars in the 1100 block of Eastway Drive near Peace Street at 11 p.m. The checkpoint lasted until 3 p.m.
The checking station was part of a statewide Booze it and Lose it “Operation Firecracker” campaign to discourage drunk driving over the July 4 holiday weekend.

DWI charges over age 21 -- 10
DWI charges under age 21 -- 4
DWI Aiding and abetting charges -- 1

Driving with license revoked -- 17
No operators license -- 73
Open container -- 5
Drug charges -- 6
Possession of alcohol under age -- 2
Seat belt violation -- 3
Concealed weapon -- 1
Gave fictitious information to officer -- 1
Other citations -- 35
Total charges – 173
Total arrests made -- 14
