1 dead, 2 injured in overnight shooting
One person is dead and two others injured after a domestic dispute in east Charlotte erupted into overnight gunfire.
The suspected shooter, 44-year-old David Mark Fields, was arrested hours later traveling in a car near Richmond, Va.
Killed in the shooting was Marcia Marie Winningham, 43. The other victims were not immediately identified.
The shooting was reported to police at 1:38 a.m. Friday in the 8400 block of Filbert Lane in the Hickory Grove Division. When officers arrived, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. All were taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where later Winningham died. The remaining victims were said to have sustained serious injuries.
“This does not appear to be a random act of violence,” CMPD public affairs officer Keith Trietley said, adding that the shooter was a “known suspect.” He did not indicate what the relationship was between the victims and the suspect.
Trietley said Fields was identified as a suspect from evidence gathered during the investigation and that CMPD had obtained a warrant for his arrest. Trietley said Fields was arrested by Virginia State Police without incident.
He will be charged with murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injury, Trietley said.
CMPD homicide detectives were enroot to Richmond early Friday to interview Fields.
Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide detective or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
