Man arrested in west Charlotte homicide

Update: Early Sunday, police arrested Ralph Lewis Gettys, 33, and charged him in the death of Raymona Abraham. In addition to a murder charge, he also was charged with assault and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Mecklenburg jail records show Gettys had been arrested at least four times previously since 2009. Those charged included assault and cocaine possession.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are trying to determine who shot and killed a 21-year-old man in west Charlotte early Saturday.
The victim was identified as Raymona Abraham.

According to a police report, officers were called to a home in the 2000 block of B Avenue in the Wilson Heights community just off Beatties Ford Road at 6 a.m. in responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon with injuries. When officers arrived, they found Abraham suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 6:09 a.m.
The suspect was described as a black male with a dark complexion, approximately 6-feet 2-inches tall and 205 pounds with his hair in braids. He was seen fleeing the scene, possibly in a two-door, white Ford Explorer.
Police said the victim and suspect likely knew one another.
